Humeral intracondylar fissure (HIF) awareness campaign- One region from £799 inc VAT*
Do you know of a spaniel with a thoracic (front) limb stiffness or lameness? Although very mild lameness may seem trivial, certain breeds such as all spaniels, Labrador, German shepherd dogs and even Rottweilers, may hide a very serious condition known a Humeral Intracondylar Fissure (HIF). The fissure can be partial or complete and progress to a complex articular fracture with very minimal effort. The discomfort and costs associated with those fractures is significant and, early detection has the potential to avoid such catastrophic event. Classical radiography is unfortunately not very sensitive for detecting those cases, and the preferred means of investigation is a CT scan. A single, plain scan can rule out the condition bilaterally with a high degree of certainty. Once diagnosed, a transcondylar screw can be placed to prevent a catastrophic failure and treat the lameness. We offer a special discount for those predisposed breed at £799 for a limited period of time*.
